The Virgin Archetype

The original definition of Virgin was ‘to know your intrinsic worth.’  The term virgin forest keeps this understanding alive.  The forest is untouched and beautiful in it’s natural, authentic state.  Its value is measured in board feet and other uses.  Patriarchy has come to define Virgin in terms of its use such as proof that any progeny are the husband’s.  In mythology a Virgin goddess is one who controls her own sexuality and makes her own choices.  She has not given herself in marriage to any one man.

As will all the archetypes there are several names that can be used to describe the same energy.  This journey to know yourself and be yourself could also be the Creative’s journey or the Rebel’s journey, or the Artist’s Way.
